A newspaper article indicating that a Robert and Sadie (Sarah) Welsh of Tippecanoe were visiting their cousin Andrew (S.) Kerr (son of John and Nancy) in Londonderry in 1888, on their way to visit their brother-in-law Rev. Forsythe.

Andrew S. Karr (b 1810 in Washington Co., PA) born to John Karr (1776-1844) and Nancy Welch ( 1774-1849). Andrew lived near Londonderry, Ohio and passed away 1891.

Robert ( b. 1866) and Sarah (b. 1863) Welch were children of  William A. (1835-1921)  and Margaret Welch. Their visit was to their 1st cousin Andrew in 1888 just prior to his death in 1891.

William (1835) was son of  John Welch (1783-1871) John was born in Ireland and moved to Westmoreland Co., PA in 1797 and then on to Harrison Co., Ohio before 1822. (Hanna).

This implies that Nancy Welch (1774) and John Welch (1783) are siblings. If John was born in Ireland in 1783 then logical that Nancy was also born in Ireland. If  Hanna is correct then John arrived in Westmoreland Co., PA in 1797 as the first date we are sure he was in the USA.

Other Welch individuals also show up about the same time and end up in Guernsey or Harrison Co., Ohio. There is Samuel Welch (born Ireland in 1772) and migrated to Westmoreland Co., PA and then on to Harrison Co., Ohio prior to 1814 (Hanna). There is Mary Welch born in Ireland 1777 and settled in Harrison Co., Ohio. Mary’s first two children (Adams) are 1806 & 1808 in PA and remainder starting in 1810 in Harrison Co., Ohio (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~edburton/fam00096.htm )

There is the issue of Daniel Welch and his son Daniel Jr. Daniel born about 1730’s in Ireland and settled in Carlisle, PA. Son born about 1763 (Carlisle) and both moved to Washington Co., PA and then on to Harrison Co., Ohio. Tempting to see Daniel Sr. as source of the family group and Daniel Jr as another sibling of  Nancy but timing seems wrong. I expect a family group all born in Ireland and moving into PA in late 1880’s or early 1890’s. Daniel is just too early.

I think the family group was Mary, Nancy, and John. Samuel is also a good candidate.

I think Daniel Jr is an outside chance. It might work as long as you assume the Daniel Sr of Washington Co, PA and Harrison Co., Ohio is not the same as the Daniel Welch of Carlisle, PA. Hanna in his book cites the property records of Carlisle probably indicates first settled there but does not come out and say they are one and the same. There is a line of Welch in that area that dates way back to 1600’s and may have generated some tax  records that could have picked up in error.

Daniel Welch Jr. shows up in early marriage records as such:

U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900

Name: Daniel Welch

Gender:            male

Birth Place:       Ir (Says Ireland not Carlisle, PA)

Birth Year:        1763 ( Implies Daniel Sr. still in Ireland in 1763)

Spouse Name: Elizabeth Waits

Spouse

Birth Place:       PA

Spouse Birth Year:       1770

Marriage

If  Nancy and John were siblings and both born in Ireland, then likely emigration would be 1783 or later. If you assume 1784 then the prospect family members would have been Daniel Jr. –21 , Samuel – 12, Nancy – 8, Mary –7 , and John –1 in age. The age difference between Daniel Jr. and the rest seems too great. My current vote would be for two different family groups with one headed by Daniel Sr. and the other by somebody perhaps named “Samuel” or “John”. Perhaps brother to Daniel Sr. and perhaps not.

If John (1783) first arrived in Westmoreland is 1797 ( age 14) then likely still in family group and that group had been living elsewhere until 1797 (PA or Ireland). It does not seem to get any easier. A search for a family group headed by an unknown male Welsh that emigrated from Ireland after 1783 but before 1797 and consisting of children Samuel, Nancy, Mary, and/or John.
